Italy is reporting an online revenue growth of over 28% in 2010 according to the Italian regulator AAMS’ sources, a number that is far greater than expected in the online gambling world.
Italy’s Gambling Revenue: Rise of Tournament Poker
According to sources most of the growth was due to a sharp rise in online tournament poker play, which accounted for more than 65% of total gambling revenue that was generated in Italy in 2010. The overall turnover in Italy for skill games rose by over 34% to 3.15 billion euros in 2010, a substantial increase in comparison with the recorded 2.35 billion euro revenue generated in 2009.
Bingo revenues generated over 146 million in Italy’s first year of its regulated online gambling environment. Sports betting with fixed odds increased to a level of a 1.35 billion euros, a whopping 11% increase.
According to AAMS, after publishing the stats they concluded that the three types of online revenue sources, sports betting, online bingo and skill games were better placed in the online world as revenue has increased substantially after being put into regulation with these types of gameplay.
Italy’s Gambling Revenue: Further Online Boost Expected
It’s expected by 2012 that Italy will have doubled its turnover with the rise of online poker cash games and online casino games that are due to launch this year.
